Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-04-27
Overview
Sorter is designed with privacy as a core principle. We believe your personal data belongs to you, and we go to great lengths to ensure it stays that way. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.
Data We Do Not Collect
Sorter does not collect, store, or process the personal content you create in the app on our servers. Specifically:
- We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or any personally identifiable information.
- We do not collect the specific items, categories, tags, or combinations you create in Sorter.
- We do not collect the photos you attach to items.
- We do not sell or share any data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
How Your Data Is Stored
All your data is stored locally on your device and synchronized through your own iCloud account. This includes:
- Items, categories, tags, and combinations you create
- Shopping lists and inventory records
- Collaborative space data (shared via iCloud sharing)
- Photos you attach to items
Because data is stored in your personal iCloud account, it is subject to Apple's privacy and security policies, not ours. You can manage, export, or delete your data at any time through your device settings.
Collaborative Spaces
Collaborative spaces allow you to share and manage items with other users. When you create or join a collaborative space:
- Space data is shared through Apple's iCloud sharing infrastructure.
- Other participants in the space can view and edit shared items based on their permissions.
- You remain in control of who can access your collaborative spaces.
In-App Purchases
Sorter offers a Plus Membership through Apple's App Store in-app purchase system. We do not process or store your payment information. All transactions are handled entirely by Apple, and we only receive confirmation of your subscription status from Apple.
Barcode Scanning
Sorter includes a barcode scanning feature for your convenience. Barcode data is processed locally on your device and stored with the associated item. We do not send scanned barcodes to any external server or API.
Firebase Analytics
Sorter uses Firebase Analytics (provided by Google) to collect anonymized usage data. This helps us understand how users interact with the app so we can improve features and fix issues.
Data collected may include:
- Feature usage frequency (e.g., how often barcode scanning is used)
- Screen views and navigation flows within the app
- Button taps and user interactions
- Device type, OS version, and app version
- General geographic region (based on IP address, which may be anonymized)
- App crashes and error reports (via Firebase Crashlytics)
This data is processed by Google in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy. It does not include the specific items, categories, or personal content you store in Sorter. We do not use this data for advertising purposes, nor do we sell it to third parties.
Opting Out
If you wish to stop analytics collection entirely, you can uninstall the app. Because all app content is stored locally on your device, uninstalling removes all associated data including Firebase installation identifiers. For more information on how Google handles your data, please review the Firebase Privacy and Security documentation.
Children's Privacy
Sorter does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
